Lance "Romance" Bagley Survives Cancer

Lance Bagley, irrepressible source of mirth and mangled song lyrics has survived cancer.  Kristen Dixon says, "about Lance and his cancer.... there is good news.... after 2 chemo rounds he's showing all clear and normal blood counts.  The Doctor is amazed.  Lance replies: I told you I was a mutant!  He's bald though and now calls himself Lance Luthor."  Good to know : ).  ERA 3/28/05

Another Year draws to a close and the Dream Police raise their children and pursue their careers and some wear our nation's uniform and stand between us and evil.   It is to those DP and their fellows that we direct our thoughts in this season.

DP To have bus and radio station at Burning Man 2001

May the new year bring greater tolerance to the world

and a renewed sense of the joy in life to each of us.

Be Excellent to Each Other.

DP To have Theme Camp at Burning Man 2001

The DP in the persons of Gary, Red, Alli and Apple will be trekking to The Burning Man 2000 art festival in the dry lake bed of Lake LaHontan outside of Gerlach, Nevada (Drywall capital of America).  There they will be joined by a number of cool and creative people Apple met last year to make a community.   Our theme camp will be called Camp Granada which will be part of a larger village of camps of camps including Sushi Camp.  The trip will be by (yet to be purchased) ex-school bus.  The camp will feature a 25' scaffolding tower with an El Wire camp sign.  This tower will be the center pole for a veritable circus tent of camoflage netting which will provide soft shade for the camps inhabitants to pitch camp beneath.   The camps theme is that we play silly music all the time (ala Dr. Dimento but including such jewels as Zappa and the Kinks).  ERA 12/30/00

Star of India Time has Passed Again

The annual Holloween fundraiser for the San Diego Maritime Museum, the Haunted Star, has passed.  The theme of this years' event was Pirates which complimented the fact that this is also the current exhibition on the Star of India itself.  We had a choice of either DP uniform or buccaneer garb (if we had some) to work in.  Volunteers for security had a bit of fun with that.  Captains Illig and Tyner both worked a night.  We once again accomplished our primary mission of a safe haunt with distinction.  ERA 12/30/00

Burning Man came and One of us was there.

Capt. Apple attended Burning Man 2K as a Black Rock Ranger and is currently constructing a Diary and Photo page of the experience. It is being posted as each item is completed so check it out.  ERA 10/12/00

Granite Hills Event now History

It is with regret that we must announce that the Dream Police will no longer work the Granite Hills High School "Grad Night" event.  After the problems we experienced with last years event we wrote a letter to the Granite Hills Principal detailing these problems and stating that we're not riot police and that perhaps the school should see that some responsible school administrators are present at the 2000 Grad Night or we weren't going to be able to help them out anymore.   That letter was sent 9 months ago and we have to date received no response.  We must therefore assume that the school no longer desires our assistance and there'll be one less night that we'll have to stay awake through this year.  It was really very difficult to do this job well and most of us are relieved that it is over.  ERA 5/10/00

Desert Trip Passes

Our annual desert trip was cool though we missed our goal, and heard a mountain lion (I immediately armed myself with a stick cause mountain lions like a little roughage) and nearly got too up close and personal with a pair of navy jets.  For a more comprehensible (no guarantees) story, go to our photos page and check out the 2000 Desert trip.   ERA 5/9/99

DP Shine at "Tales From the Ship"

This year's event at the Star of India was different than we normally see there.  Instead of the usual Haunted Ship presentation the Maritime Museum tried something different this year.   They had lantern lit tours of the ship where Actors (good) recounted  stories of the three people that have died on the Star over it's lifetime.  Coincidentaly, during the run of Tales from the Ship the History channel showcased the the same three ghosts on, uh, the name escapes me but it was on the evening of October 27th.  The tales were taken from the ship's log.  Staffing requirements for this type of event were thankfully small and DP attendance was good.   The public seemed to enjoy the new presentation and attendance was fair so the year was adjudged a success by all.  John H. was promoted to sergeant and Redd Dan was made DP.   John H.'s Halloween party was a blast (minor) and he made a really cool Alien prop (ala Roswell).  ERA 11/11/99

*"D.P. Front!"

Due to a number of factors we will be especially hard pressed to fully staff the Haunted Star this year.  This is a call to all Dream Police past, present and future.  Your organization needs you now.  If you have any time to spare at the end of October from the 21st to the 31st, 6 to 9:30pm to benefit the San Diego Maritime Museum, please respond to dpapple@inetworld.net with your available days.   Responsible, level headed volunteers always welcome : ). Granite Hills Grad Night Tense

This year's grad nite at Granite Hills High School was especially eventful with a number of stand offs at the main gate as well as quite a few fence jumpings (in both directions).  We had to summon police assistance on three occasions when things got particularly ugly and all in all it was not much fun.  We have identified what we believe to be the main causes of these troubles in a letter to the Principal of Granite Hills HS and are now awaiting an answer from her.  There is serious question as to whether we will again work there.  Please Note The troubles at the Granite Hills Grad Nite were caused by a bare minority of the Senior class and for the most part they are good kids.  ERA 8/12/99

Summer at Last!

Yearly Desert Trek ('98) Completed

Our annual adventure into the wilds of East County

has taken place.  This years goal was an excellent

hike through a slot canyon called appropriately enough,

"the Slot".  According to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Guide, "At the narrowest point it is about a foot wide

with boulders wedged between the walls towering over your

head.  Owls and Ravens have built their nests on the

ledges of this wall."  One mile into the hike was an

geological feature known as "the Wind Caves", which

was cool to check out if somewhat smaller than expected.

The Pics are being developed now and should be posted

soon.

Halloween '98 Passes (Ouch!)

The "Haunted Star" on the Star of India at the San Diego Maritime Museum passed uneventfully (pun unintended).  The presentation was better but the line still moved too slowly and more advertising needs to be done in future.  John H.'s Halloween costume party was a blast.  ERA 11/17/98
